Motherwort and Spilanthes

I grew beautiful Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) from seed for the teaching collection at The Florida State University Department of Biological Science. The lion heart mother as a nervine supports the heart and spirit through times of stress and tension. As a cardiovascular herb (Latin name: cardiaca), this beauty supports the heart through times of deep grief.

Another beauty I grew from seeds I saved from last year is the super medicinal Spilanthes acmella. These beauties are the size of your head! The cute little Dr Seuss-like blooms would make an adorable little hanging basket. Just take a tiny nibble though and you’ll immediately recognize the sialagogue qualities. With a nickname, toothache plant, it’s surely to make your entire mouth go numb. The antibacterial activity in this beautiful plant packs a powerful punch along with its antioxidant, analgesic, antimicrobial, vasorelaxant, and anti-inflammatory effects...just to name a few.
